Kurukshetra University, established in 1956, holds a rich legacy, with its foundation stone laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President. Nestled in the sacred city of Kurukshetra, the University has grown from its humble beginnings with a single Sanskrit department into a prestigious institution recognized for its academic excellence and research. Famed for the epic Mahabharata and the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, the university’s campus stretches across 400 acres beside the revered Brahmi Sarovar. The campus sits beside the holy tank of Brahma Sarovar, in the land associated with the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita. Green, walkable and largely residential, it houses academic blocks, hostels, sports grounds and a central library within a single contiguous site.
Sport has long been part of campus identity: the University received the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for national sporting performance, and its boxing team has won inter‑university gold at the national level.
